The point of this post is that often there is a collection at the end of a funeral service for a good cause, often one that has some relevance to the family or specifically to the person who has died. But sometimes, knowing which organisation to nominate can be a challenge. So I would just like to take this opportunity to highlight the work of a project in Bath - The WoodWorks Project. I can offer no better explanation for their work than the words found on the intro page of their website...
"The
Woodworks Project runs furniture and upholstery workshop projects from its
professionally equipped workshops. The projects are designed to help those who
have faced difficulties through their mental or physical health or history of
addiction, to move forward in their lives in a friendly, relaxed and supportive
environment.
We aim
to create as realistic a work experience as possible for our clients, doing
genuinely meaningful and engaging work in structured full-day sessions.
The
people who come to our projects, work on making, renovating and upholstering
furniture which will then be sold in our shop. Along the way they will learn
all the woodworking and upholstery skills needed to produce work to a high
standard from our experienced and expert tutors. Our workshops are completely
unpressurised, there are no timescales or deadlines to work to and everyone is
free to work and learn at a pace that is suitable to them individually.
The
Woodworks Project charity was established last year in order to run the
successful project which previously ran for ten years under the umbrella of
another well known Bath charity. During that time we helped over 200 of the
most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community."

ReplyDeleteSomething magical about creating something useful and attractive from items which were redundant, while transforming lives and giving them purpose.
